Duncan Green, Oxfam

Keynote Speaker Duncan Green is the author of From Poverty to Power and Oxfam GB’s Senior Strategic Adviser. He was Oxfam’s Head of Research from 2004-12. From Poverty to Power contains the accumulated knowledge of 25 years spent researching and writing about reducing poverty and combating injustice and, as he says, trying to “do justice to the complexity of the world, while still believing there is a story about how it can be changed for the better.” 

His talk is entitled 'What's Hot and What's Not: trends in international aid and development'.

John Hilary, War on Want

 John Hilary is the Executive Director of War on Want, and has written for the Guardian, Red Pepper and the New Internationalist. He has worked for over 20 years in the International Development and Human Rights sector, and has published widely on a range of issues related to trade, aid and globalisation.

War on Want fights poverty in developing countries in partnership with people affected by globalisation. They campaign for human rights and against the root causes of global poverty, inequality and injustice.

Felix Jakens, Results

Felix Jakens has been Volunteer and Grassroots Campaigns Coordinator for Results since November 2010. Originally from Lewes in East Sussex, he studied History and Politics at the University of the West England and went on to complete an Msc in International Security at Bristol University.

Felix has worked for many organisations including Compass, STOP THE TRAFFIK and the New Internationalist, working both on campaigns and with volunteers. 

Results is an international campaigning NGO striving to end extreme poverty through the use of trained volunteers and grassroots groups who combine ideas to take effective action for change.

Rémi Kaupp

Rémi Kaupp is a programme officer in Homeless International since 2008, where he focuses on the development of East African partner organisations, especially for water & sanitation and rental housing programmes. A sanitation engineer by training, he previously worked with Oxfam and Emergency Architects.

Homeless International is an NGO based in Coventry and supporting slum dwellers to improve their lives and find lasting solutions to urban poverty. They support the development of local, community-led organisations in Africa and Asia, focusing on housing and basic services.

Aldo Mussi

A West Midlands Green Party candidate for the MEP elections, a tutor in Public Health at Birmingham City University, and as a former VSO in Malawi, having a career-long interest in international development.

Masumi Owa

Masumi is a Doctoral Candidate in the Warwick PaIS department, researching collective action in global governance. She
has studied within the field of Development and International Studies extensively and boasts eight years of impressive work experience in the area, including for the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a researcher/advisor at Delegation of Japan to the OECD in Paris (Development Assistance Committee: 2008-10) and Embassy of Japan in Uganda (Economic Cooperation Section: 2003-06), where she experienced both managing project aid and aid policy coordination.
